SPOTLIGHT: Christopher Green, a dedicated supporter of our Career Connections program at California Rehab.
Christopher’s motivation to volunteer comes from his deep belief in the work we do here. Before joining our team, he had no idea how impactful rehabilitation hospitals like California Rehab are to the community. “We serve as a cornerstone for our patients, helping them regain the confidence to reintegrate into society. Being part of this mission has been both professionally and personally rewarding,” he says.
For Christopher, building meaningful connections with others is one of the most fulfilling aspects of volunteering. “Developing others has always been a natural talent of mine,” he shares, “so having the chance to connect in such a meaningful way has been an incredible experience.”
He also emphasizes the importance of programs like Career Connections in breaking down barriers, particularly in healthcare and education. “Whether it’s providing medical equipment not covered by insurance or supporting continued education, these programs fill the ‘gray area’ between the black-and-white aspects of both systems.”
Thank you, Christopher, for your dedication and the positive impact you make in our community.
SPOTLIGHT: Meet Kim Miller, one of the incredible volunteers behind our Enabling Independence Program. 💙
“I am so passionate about assisting with Cal Rehab Foundation’s Enabling Independence Program because it truly fills a huge need in our community,” Kim shares. “Navigating life after a disability or injury is hard enough—especially when life-changing equipment is financially out of reach. This program gives people access to the tools they need to reclaim independence, and that’s life-changing not just for individuals, but for their families and caregivers, too.”
Kim’s commitment to advocacy and improving lives is a shining example of the heart behind our mission. Her words remind us how community, compassion, and support can create real change. 💪
We’re so grateful for volunteers like Kim who make it possible for us to continue impacting lives in meaningful ways. THANK YOU for believing in the power of independence and the strength of community.
SPOTLIGHT: Adrienne Forst first came to California Rehabilitation Institute as a patient, unsure of what to expect. What she found was a place of healing, strength, and unwavering support.
“It’s hard to explain the impact unless you’ve experienced it firsthand,” Adrienne shares. “From the moment I arrived, I was met with not only incredible care but also extraordinary kindness. The physical and occupational therapy I received—three hours a day—prepared me to return home with full confidence in myself.”
Her week-long stay changed everything—and inspired her to give back. ❤️
“Because of what I experienced, I knew I had to get involved with the Cal Rehab Foundation. The work they do helps people not just while they’re at the Institute, but once they’re back home navigating life. That kind of support is truly life-changing”.
We’re beyond grateful for Adrienne and all our volunteers who turn personal experiences into purpose. Your stories are powerful. Your support is everything. 💫
SPOTLIGHT: Julienne Dallara
Julienne’s story is one of resilience, purpose, and full-circle giving. 💙 “When I was first paralyzed, I had two babies at home. A year later, my husband left, and I had to find a way to support my family,” Julienne shares. “A grant for an accessible van changed everything—it led to a job, a new career, and a lifelong passion for serving the disability community.” Now, 25 years later, Julienne brings her experience, knowledge, and heart to the Cal Rehab Foundation’s Enabling Independence Program. “As a wheelchair user myself, I know how vital the right resources are. I’m honored to be part of a team that doesn’t just hand out funding—we work thoughtfully to find the right solutions for each person’s unique needs.” Julienne’s leadership, compassion, and lived experience make a lasting impact—not only on our applicants, but on our entire community. “In my time as Ms. Wheelchair California, I dreamed of nonprofits working together. And now, through the Cal Rehab Foundation, I get to live that dream. It’s beautiful, and I’m so proud to be part of it.” Thank you, Julienne, for turning challenge into change and inspiring us all. 💫
SPOTLIGHT: MARC at UCLA
As we continue to celebrate the incredible impact of volunteers, like those who give their time and energy to the Cal Rehab Foundation. Here’s a beautiful reflection from several of our volunteers:
“As members of the Medical Association for Rehabilitation Care (MARC) at UCLA, we are united by a shared passion for helping individuals regain their independence, dignity, and function after life-changing injuries. Volunteering with the Cal Rehab Foundation allows us to support patients physically, emotionally, and socially, recognizing the whole person in their recovery journey. What’s most meaningful to us is the Foundation’s commitment to restoring quality of life. Rehabilitation is more than just the final step in treatment—it’s an essential part of the healing process. Witnessing the long-term resilience and adaptation of patients is truly inspiring. The Foundation’s patient-centered approach and empathy resonate deeply with us, as it mirrors the values we aim to carry forward in our future healthcare careers. We are honored to be part of this community that leads with compassion and action.” – Jess Liu, Victoria Gong, & Yixin Wu
